National Sun Yat-Sen University hosted a bilateral online workshop to formulate future cooperation topics with the University of Ruhuna on Feb 25th 2021.

Since Taiwan and Sri Lanka Environmental Change Sciences and Technology Innovation Center establishment, it has produced fruitful research results. Professor Ching Chang Hung (Dean, the College of Marine Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University) shared information on the current situation of eutrophic and hypoxic phenomena investigated in Negombo Lagoon, Sri Lanka in the past two years. Professor Wei-Jen Huang shared the function of the mini pCO2 buoy which was made by his lab.
The mini pCO2 buoy with high temporal resolution may solve the covariations between temporal and spatial variations in coastal environments such as lagoons, and wetlands. Professor Shang-Yin Vanson Liu also announced a topic of the population connectivity and genetic diversity of the Blue swimming crab (Portunus reticulatus) in Sri Lanka that will be cooperating with Sri Lanka in the future. At the end of the event, master's and PhD students from Sri Lanka and Taiwan who were studying at NSYSU shared their research results at Sun Yat-Sen University, and live discussions were enthusiastic. The platform of this centre, not only develops, promotes and exchanges current marine sciences education between Taiwan and Sri Lanka's top universities, but also enriches the cultivation of marine science technology talents in the two countries.
