The Vice President of the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines, as the distinguished professor and university fellow of De La Salle University, Professor Alvin B. Culaba, visited the Taiwan-Thailand WISE Center at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) during March 20 – 23, 2023 to reinforce the mutual collaboration on water-energy nexus and net zero emission. NTHU delegates discussed with Professor Alvin B. Culaba the water-energy nexus of the Mekong River region and optimistically proposed the multi-lateral project on carbon management strategy and negative carbon technology of the Mekong River Basin, which can be supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Professor Culaba agreed with the idea and suggested working together with scholars from Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam to initiate the conceptual proposal.

 

During his stay at NTHU, Prof. Culaba visited the President and Senior Vice President of NTHU, and exchanged ideas on clean energy and net zero emission between Taiwan and the Philippines with deans of several colleges including the College of Engineering, College of Nuclear Science, and the Taipei School of Economics and Political Science to Moreover, NTHU also arranged Professor Culaba to visit Hsinchu Science Park. Under the host and introduction of Deputy Director General Shih-Ming Hu, Professor Culaba has learned the history and R&D of Hsinchu Science Park, and hopes can bring this successful experience back to the Philippines to launch the Science Park in the Philippines.
