新南向科研合作專網-Research Highlights

:::

To deepen Taiwan–Indonesia collaboration in low-carbon construction and sustainable development, our center TI-STIC organized a series of visits alongside the 3rd Taiwan–Indonesia International Seminar on Application and Research held on August 21.

On August 20, the delegation visited the Surabaya City Environmental Protection Agency (DLHK Surabaya), where they were received by Drs. Dedik Irianto, M.M. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the city’s waste management policies and practices. The agency shared experiences on waste handling, collection fees, and recycling systems, and also showcased innovative approaches such as repurposing used tires into waste collection containers—an example that left a strong impression on the delegation.

On August 22, the delegation visited the Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator of Indonesia (REIDI) at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). Hosted by Program Coordinator Dr. Dedet Candra Riawan, the team learned that REIDI is Indonesia’s largest research, demonstration, training, and testing facility for renewable energy, covering 1.5 hectares. Its infrastructure includes a 500 kWp solar PV system, 400 kWh storage capacity, a 50 kW biomass facility, and a 10 kW hydrogen power system. REIDI is also advancing agrivoltaic systems and eco-campus development to integrate renewable energy with sustainable campus design. The project is part of the INSPIRATION international program, a collaboration between ITS, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore, and several Indonesian universities. Officially launched in late 2023 with USD 4.5 million in funding, it aims to establish Indonesia’s first living renewable energy laboratory.

The delegation also visited the Benowo landfill site (TPA Benowo) to observe waste-to-energy practices on the ground. These visits not only enhanced mutual understanding of waste management and renewable energy applications but also laid a stronger foundation for future bilateral cooperation in low-carbon urban governance and green technology development.
